FuelEU Maritime
GHG intensity limits for shipping
FuelEU Maritime has been in force since January 2025. It imposes phased GHG intensity limits on maritime fuels, with penalties that can exceed €1M per vessel per year for non-compliance. Battery-powered vessels need continuous energy monitoring.
€2K–10K per tonne CO₂ deviation. Can exceed €1M+ per vessel per year.
What It Requires
GHG intensity limits for maritime fuels (phased reduction)
Annual monitoring and reporting of energy use
Compliance balance tracking across fleet
Penalty multiplier for consecutive non-compliance years

What Happens If Not Compliant
